Womenfolk observe protest against power outages

KOHAT: The female dwellers of Junglekhel and a significant number of Jarma village residents demonstrated here on Saturday against what they said were 16 hours of electricity load-shedding.

The protesters chanted slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) for subjecting them to long power outages in the unbearable hot weather.

On the other hand, district development advisory committee chairman Ziauallah Bangash also visited the grid station to get first-hand information about the frequent suspension of electricity supply. He was told by the grid station officials that power outages were due to a huge shortfall in supply.

Meanwhile, Pesco officials told Dawn that they were carrying out 16 hours of load management in areas with over 70 percent of power theft rate, and four hours in areas with zero-theft rate.

Also on Saturday, the chief executive officer of Water Supply and Sanitation Company Arif Rauf, in a statement, blamed the unscheduled power load-shedding for the water shortage as overhead tanks could not be filled to build pressure for water supply to residents.
